In March 1955, Josef Horák performed the world's first solo bass clarinet recital.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of this great occasion the World Bass Clarinet Foundation held a 3 day bass clarinet convention from 21st-23rd October 2005 - the first event ever to focus solely on all aspects of bass clarinet performance.

The World Bass Clarinet Convention took place in Rotterdam Holland.
Josef Horák was the guest of honour. We are saddened to announce the untimely death of Josef Horák on November 23rd in Germany at the age of 74. Our sympathy goes to Emma, his wife and duo partner, who shared every moment with him for more than 40 years.

We have received a lot of questions regarding a second edition of the Convention, and we are happy to announce the board’s decision to plan the Second World Bass Clarinet Convention in 2008. Further information, including dates, will be published shortly.

In the next issue of our newsletter there will also be information on plans for other activities by the Foundation. In the meantime you could consider to become a member of the Foundation and be part of the Bass Clarinet community, receive the newsletter and benefit from special member priviliges.
